Muneeza Shaikh
Muneeza Shaikh completed undergraduate studies at York University in Sociology and Labour Studies. She then attended Osgoode Hall Law School, where she obtained a law degree. After completing law school, she worked for one the leading union-side labour law firms learning from the top litigators in the area. She also spent time working as in-house counsel for one of the largest unions in the province. She currently practices in the area of labour and employment law, family law, criminal defense, residential real estate and human rights law.
Muneeza is also one of the four lawyers that launched a human rights complaint against Maclean’s Magazine at the Federal and Provincial levels, and was part of the litigation team that argued the case before the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal in June of 2008. She authored many opinion editorials for various newspapers such as The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, The National, the Calgary Herald, the Washington Post, The Montreal Gazette, and The Ottawa Citizen. She has also spoken on various panels surrounding the issue of free speech and multiculturalism and has spoken at various political and social engagements defending the role of the human rights commissions and tribunals.
